Who gets to tell your story? Is it those who pass you by and judge, those who have known you the longest, or is it you who takes ownership? Directed, choreographed, and written in collaboration with performers, Lara M. Friedman-Kats presents What Do You See When You Look at Me? an inclusive dance theatre experience. A documentary dance film directed by Lara Friedman-Kats. This film captures hidden stories, emotions, and snapshots into a person’s life. It is a way for individuals to be seen and heard, telling their unseen stories. By only looking at the surface of the individual, we fail to acknowledge the depth and impact of another human being standing right before us. In hopes to listen, understand, and speaking about the uncomfortable, I hope to educate myself and audiences on various identities while creating an equal platform for all voices to be heard, not just seen.

"Life is only a reflection of what we allow ourselves to see"
A new work in process. The piece is part of the study toward research in pursuit of the thesis for my MFA in Dance; I am focused on telling stories of various individuals. I will explore identity, perceptions of what others may have, and reflection on ourselves and those around us.
